Calculation guide

How the traditional UAE gratuity estimate is built

First five eligible years

Each eligible year is calculated at 21 days of the last basic wage. Fractions of a year are included proportionately after at least one continuous year has been completed.

Service after five years

Each eligible year after the first five is calculated at 30 days of the last basic wage. Unpaid absence is excluded from the service period.

Part-time and other models

The work-pattern percentage allows the full-time estimate to be proportioned. Use the percentage determined from contracted annual hours and the applicable full-time hours.

Overall cap

The traditional gratuity total is limited to two years of wage. The calculator displays both the raw estimate and the maximum cap used.

FAQ

UAE gratuity questions

Which salary is used for UAE gratuity?

The traditional private-sector gratuity calculation is based on the worker's last basic salary, not allowances such as housing or transport.

Is gratuity payable for less than one year of service?

Under the standard traditional method, a worker who has completed less than one year of continuous service is not entitled to gratuity.

How are years after the first five treated?

The first five eligible years use 21 days of basic wage per year. Eligible service after five years uses 30 days per year, subject to the overall cap and applicable rules.

Does the Savings Scheme use this calculation?

No. Employers participating in the optional alternative Savings Scheme contribute under a different system. Confirm which arrangement applies to your employment.
